  • 4th arrondissement

YOUR APARTMENT
Two-bedroom apartment in older building. (70 sq. m/ 700 sq.ft.); Sleeps 4: 1 double bed, 2 twin beds. 1st. floor (1 flight of stairs), with elevator.

A large living room (with elegant white piano) is one of the pleasant surprises that greet the eye on entering. Another is the spacious, modern, open kitchen and bar that overlook the living room - perfect for entertaining friends for drinks or a companionable meal. Windows open on to a typically Parisian street, full of cafés and restaurants, and the buzz of passers-by as they stroll along this pedestrian, cobble-stoned street in the heart of old Paris.

Down the hall are the two simple bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with two singles. There's adequate closet space for your wardrobe (one incorporates a practical safe deposit box) and there's a very modern bathroom just opposite with a wall-shower and bathtub. There's a separate half-bathroom behind the kitchen.

The exterior of this old building, like many, can be deceiving - concealing the charm of old and original exposed ceiling beams and a glimpse of history in this eclectic neighbourhood. This is a great apartment for two couples or a family of four.

EXTRAS: Cable Television, CD/Cassette Stereo, Upright Piano, Safe Box, High speed internet access (ethernet).

YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD: The Les Halles area is part of an historic area, most of which is pedestrianised. Many of the streets have been narrowed and pavements and sidewalks broadened to accommodate the outdoor cafés and shops that spill their produce in display units onto the sidewalks. The Forum des Halles is a 4 level-deep shopping mall (built inconspicuously under the site of the former central market place) and houses more than 20 cinemas, a 50-meter swimming pool, a cinema museum, a concert hall and many other delightful surprises. Outside, it is surrounded by the Jardin des Halles, lots of quiet spaces,  lawns, trees and plants.

A few streets away you'll find the wonderful Rue Montorgeuil, one of the last remaining vestiges of the former Les Halles marketplace; a great street to wander as it is crammed with boulangeries and patisseries, fishmongers, butchers, crémeries and greengrocers. On the corner with Rue Etienne Marcel, you'll discover the great kitchen and cooking utensil supply houses. This is where many restaurants still shop for their supplies.

Also nearby is the incredible Gothic cathedral of Saint Eustache built in the 16th and 17th centuries that nearly rivals Notre Dame. And around the corner from Rue des Lombards is the famous Pompidou Center - the cultural museum which also attracts a crowd of entertainers and artists surrounding the entrance and who amuse waiting visitors. The Louvre and Notre Dame are perfect short walks from the apartment.
